Don Sammons, famously known as the only resident of Buford, Wyo., is preparing to retire from his job as the owner of the gas station and convenience store there. Buford lies about halfway between Cheyenne and Laramie along Interstate 80 at an altitude around 8,000 feet. It’s the only stop between the two cities and drivers along the interstate pass a few billboards pointing out “world famous” Buford along the way. I drove over to get a shot of Sammons in action at the gas station on Wednesday and afterwards spent about 30 minutes talking to him about coffee. The WTE’s Josh Rhoten has a full story about his retirement.

Don Sammons, the lone resident of Buford, Wyo., interacts with a customer at the gas station convenience store he owns and operates on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, in Buford. Sammons, who owns and operates the station, is hoping to retire soon to move to Colorado.
