The camera is often a passport to places I otherwise would never be able to go. A recent example of this occurred last week when I had the opportunity to photograph an old tradition being revived at Indiana University: the playing of the alma mater on the IU Student Building chime. The weekly performance is being revived at the request of the IU President Michael A. McRobbie after he heard about the tradition from an alumnus. I was able to photograph IU’s curator of organs and carillons David Kazimir as he played the alma mater, “Hail to Old I.U.,” using wooden levers controlling the 14-bell chime in the tower.
