The Alamo (again)

By James Brosher | Posted at 11:50 pm on Sunday, August 8, 2010 | Share | Comments (0)

I went to the Alamo on Saturday for the second time during my summer in Texas. This time I went with a couple of the newsroom interns who wanted to see the sights in San Antonio. Unlike my previous trip, I didn’t shoot many frames this time. Despite this, I did capture an interesting moment between a few re-enactors who were playing 1830′s era Mexican soldiers behind the Alamo. (As a side note, check out their huge hats.)

Europe through a plastic lens

By James Brosher | Posted at 11:34 am on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 | Share | Comments (0)

Recently I discovered a more efficient way to post my square Holga shots to a blog designed for horizontals: Flickr. I never really got into Flickr until now. I’m using it as a way to build flash-based galleries of my Holga shots, which a plugin formats into nice columns. If you saw my original posts with the photos, you’ll notice a few new additions that I scanned more recently.

San Antonio, Texas (and the Alamo)

By James Brosher | Posted at 10:51 pm on Saturday, July 31, 2010 | Share | Comment (1)

On my last day off during my time in Texas, I decided to go see the most cliché Texan thing possible: the Alamo. While I was there, I walked around the River Walk, which reminded me a lot of Venice with all the cafes and restaurants along the way.

Schloss Neuschwanstein

Here are a few more Holga frames from my trip to Europe last month. Schloss Neuschwanstein, roughly translated as the Castle of New Swan Mountain, is one of the most famous and popular castles in Germany. Built in the late 1800s, it is the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Here are a few frames I took with my Holga last month in Salzburg, Austria. The multiple exposure below was an attempt to show a few sights in the city including Mozart’s tourist presence and the horse-drawn carriages.

Berchtesgaden, Germany

By James Brosher | Posted at 1:40 pm on Monday, June 7, 2010 | Share | Comments (0)

Here are a few frames from my trip to Berchtesgaden, Germany last month. Berchtesgaden, located in Southern Bavaria, is known infamously as the home of the Nazi party elite during World War II. While there, I visited the Eagle’s Nest, which is known in German as the Kehlsteinhaus. The party gave Adolf Hitler the mountain-top house as a present for his 50th birthday. After the war, it was spared from demolition and it is now a museum and restaurant. I recommend the Wiener schnitzel and beer if you ever go.

Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW)

By James Brosher | Posted at 7:05 pm on Monday, May 24, 2010 | Share | Comments (0)

I’m usually not a huge fan of museums. That was until today. We visited the BMW Museum, which was especially interesting because of the priceless collection it houses and also because of the architecture of the museum itself. It was one of the coolest buildings I’ve been in. Normally I stray away from museum shots, but I made a few pictures at the BMW Museum playing off of their interesting lighting setups:
