Black Key Bulls are Little 500 champions for the second-consecutive season. Following a lap 81 crash involving several contending teams, BKB and Sigma Alpha Epsilon capitalized on the opportunity and broke away from the pack. The two rivals collaborated on the track and coordinated exchanges in the pits to distance themselves from the field including a strong Cutters team. BKB made what ultimately became the winning move with 38 laps to go when Black Key Bulls rider Wiley Close and SAE’s Luke Naas headed towards their pits for another coordinated exchange. Suddenly, Close veered back onto the track and sprinted away from Naas. BKB never looked back en route to victory.

For the final home game of IU’s historic football season, I coordinated with the IU Athletics Department to capture aerial photos and videos of a snow-covered Memorial Stadium. This was IU’s first home night game of the season, presenting an interesting opportunity to capture the sold-out stadium after dark. The snowy weather at kickoff added another unique element to the photos. It’s not often that we have snow in Bloomington this early in the season, let alone for a football game. The game marked my third experience flying within a temporary flight restriction (TFR) after being granted a waiver from the FAA.

Sunday marked my tenth anniversary as a photographer at Indiana University. In this past decade, I have been very fortunate to document my beloved alma mater. I always tell my students that the camera is a passport to places you otherwise wouldn’t be able to go. This has certainly been the case here for me. From photographing and meeting John Cleese to witnessing a total solar eclipse, the camera has enriched my life with countless opportunities.
