I had the opportunity last week to photograph Circle K International’s “Circle the City with Service” project in Indianapolis as part of the Kiwanis International convention in Indianapolis. The project spanned several blocks on Indy’s west side and I spent the day bouncing around from project site to project site photographing the college students in action for the Kiwanis Magazine.

Indiana University commencements
Earlier this month, I photographed six Indiana University commencement ceremonies in a five-day span. For me, these graduations are the most important IU shoots I will have all year. While these photos may be used on social media, marketing materials and websites in the short-term, I approach the graduations as a chance to document the long-term history of the university. It was a whirlwind of a week, but a lot of fun to have the opportunity to make pictures at various IU campuses around the state. Earlier this week I photographed student composer Ari Fisher. Fisher recently won an IU student film scoring award.
IU Student Building chime tradition revived
The camera is often a passport to places I otherwise would never be able to go. A recent example of this occurred last week when I had the opportunity to photograph an old tradition being revived at Indiana University: the playing of the alma mater on the IU Student Building chime. The weekly performance is being revived at the request of the IU President Michael A. McRobbie after he heard about the tradition from an alumnus. I was able to photograph IU’s curator of organs and carillons David Kazimir as he played the alma mater, “Hail to Old I.U.,” using wooden levers controlling the 14-bell chime in the tower.
