South Bend Adams upsets Lake Central

March 10, 2012

Today I resumed my role as a professional armpit photographer. I didn’t post any peak-action armpits here, but you can see a bunch of them here. It was a pretty good game as South Bend Adams knocked off a highly-favored Lake Central to advance to the regional title game.

Notre Dame features

March 7, 2012

Found a few features today as I walked around the Notre Dame campus. A string of warm days has prompted me to walk around the campus to look for features this week. Today we were in the 60s. Can’t wait for spring officially to arrive.

Joe Dolan, a sophomore from Fishers, Ind., checks his iPhone as he lays under a cocoon of blankets on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, on a grassy area in front of Fisher Hall on the Notre Dame campus. Dolan said he had been laying out since about 8 a.m. and planned to do so until a class at 4 p.m. (James Brosher/South Bend Tribune)

Syrup farmer

March 6, 2012

Last week I spent part of my afternoon photographing at Dodd’s Sugar Shack near Niles, Mich. The reason I was there was for a story about above-normal syrup production levels thanks to the unseasonably warm temperatures. I followed around Don Dodd, the owner, for a while as he worked during what was a very busy day for him. My favorite moment came shortly before I left when he leaned up against a door in his barn and took a break from the hectic day.

Classroom work

March 4, 2012

Here’s a frame from a recent story about a new bill evaluating teachers in the state by categories ranging from “highly effective” to “ineffective.”
