I recently photographed Deacon John Cord for a story in Notre Dame Magazine about the unexpected direction his retirement and ministry have taken. It was great to have the chance to work with John a couple of times earlier this year. He jokingly referred to me as his “friend from prison,” which is technically accurate: as part of the story, I spent a morning with him inside Heritage Trail Correctional Facility in Plainfield, Indiana. John’s ministry takes him into places and situations most of us rarely see, and I was grateful for the opportunity to tag along and document some of that work.
