Alejandro Escovedo at Blues on the Green

July 7, 2010

My shift on Wednesday night was pretty slow so I walked over to Zilker Park and shot a few features of the evening’s headliner, Alejandro Escovedo. Escovedo was one of the musicians performing this summer at Blues on the Green, a free concert series that draws hundreds of Austinites to Zilker Park each Wednesday evening.

Park feature

July 7, 2010

I was on the way to a different assignment this evening, but stopped to make this feature. I’m a fan of silhouettes and I seem to be becoming more of a minimalist with some of my features, especially ones I know aren’t going to run in the paper.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

July 7, 2010

I photographed Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros on Tuesday night at La Zona Rosa. They’re an indie folk rock group from Los Angeles that are gradually gaining popularity nationwide. One sign of this is the fact they sold out La Zona Rosa. Since it was a sell out, I showed up at 7:30 p.m. and waited in line to get in then made my way to the front of the stage. After the opening act, the band finally took the stage around 10:45 p.m. They’re a very interesting group, and definitely worth a listen.
