‘Big Boy’ paint job

September 6, 2011

On Labor Day I was the only photographer on the clock so my job was to go feature hunting to fill our hole on page A3. I was on my way to work when I passed Holliday Park and noticed a crew of folks with paint brushes working on the ‘Big Boy’ Union Pacific train. The photo Gods were smiling upon me. There are some days when it’s incredibly hard to find a feature photo in Cheyenne, but Monday I just so happened to stumble upon one.

Alex Frye, 13, carefully applies a coat of black paint around identifying numbers on the Big Boy train on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, in Holliday Park. Members of the Sherman Hill Model Railroad Club spent the day applying fresh paint to the train, one of eight existing 4000-class Union Pacific trains still in existance today.
