South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg names interim police chief

March 30, 2012

I got pulled off a morning assignment and re-routed to the mayor’s office for a news conference introducing – well, actually re-introducing – Chuck Hurley as the interim South Bend Police Department police chief. He is a former chief. This all comes after the mayor announced the resignation of the former chief, Darryl Boykins, following a federal investigation into wiretapping procedures by the police department.

Buttigieg said he was advised by legal council to not elaborate on the investigation, which he was made aware of in late January. (James Brosher/South Bend Tribune)
