A new view of the old fieldhouse at Indiana University

July 1, 2017

Last week, I did a few short drone flights in the evening for an IU Communications project. While I was out and the evening light was nice, I decided to get a few quick shots of this limestone trident on the side of the Wildermuth Intramural Center (WIC), the former home to the Indiana Men’s Basketball team. One of the coolest parts about drone photography is being able to see and capture things from angles otherwise not possible.

Indiana University Bloomington Summer Campus Scenics
A limestone trident adorns the side of the Wildermuth Intramural Center (WIC) during a summer day on the Indiana University Bloomington campus on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. From 1928 to 1960, this gym – formerly known as The Fieldhouse – was home to the Indiana Men’s Basketball team. The Hoosiers compiled a 234-74 record in the building. On Feb. 29, 1960 the last game played in the building for a crowd of 10,556 was a 99-83 victory against eventual national champions Ohio State, the Buckeyes only conference loss that season. In the building with the Buckeyes that night: a 6-4 forward from Orrville, Ohio, Robert Knight. (James Brosher/IU Communications)
