Had a crazy night at work on Friday. Originally, I was only slated to shoot a high school football game, but after the half I was called to a reported chemical fire on the east side of the city. When I arrived, roads were blocked and police and fire fighters were in the process of evacuating people who lived in a one-square-mile area near the fire. With our reporter, I drove back to the local fire station where the evacuees were initially sent. After a cranky air card made sending four photos quite a task by 11 p.m., I spent the rest of my evening in my car editing football photos at the local McDonald’s parking lot to use their WiFi. Crazy night, but luckily I was able to hit all my deadlines for the paper. (I can’t complain too much: our reporter, Madeline, wrote her story sitting on a curb using her iPhone. She’s quite a trooper.)

I photographed my first-ever Notre Dame home football game on Saturday. I’ve heard that it’s quite an experience and it lived up to it. Not since I shot Indiana basketball in college have I seen such tradition and pageantry on display. I have to admit I was a bit rusty on the action this first game as I haven’t shot much sports lately. However, I think I’ll get back in the swing of things starting next Saturday at Michigan State. Stay tuned and thanks for looking.
