It seems like I end up photographing concerts and musicians quite often. In Austin it was pretty typical since the city is the Mecca of live music. But I have been surprised to have the opportunity to photograph a number of shows here in Peoria as well. I’ve found that it’s something I truly enjoy, and it would certainly be a dream job to be able to photograph musicians for a living. On my day off this week, I put together a music portfolio. Here are a few frames from that portfolio:
My primary assignment today was to photograph a troupe of blind dancers from the Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind in India performing at the local Hindu temple. I wasn’t sure what to expect heading over there, but it turned into a pretty cool assignment. The temple’s alter is full of bright colors and the dancers wore colorful clothes, making for some colorful shots. The entire group of dancers are blind, which made it kind of amazing to see them pulling off the highly choreographed moves to perfection. I know I wouldn’t be able to do anything near what these guys could do.
