Operation Santa

Girl Scouts and other volunteers filled stockings in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. Organizers say they hope to fill 35,000 stockings by Christmas.

Joe Crandell, a veteran of the Marine reserves, pays his respects to a childhood friend, James Graham, who died serving in Korea, after a ceremony honoring Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Soldier's Hill in Springdale Cemetery. This year's ceremony paid special respects to veterans who died in the Korean conflict.

Marine cake cutting

Karl Schmidt, a World War II veteran and Marine who served in the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945, holds a piece of cake as one of the oldest Marines in attendance at a Semper Fi Fish Fry on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Kelleher's Irish Pub. The event featured a formal Marine cake cutting ceremony in which guests of honor, the oldest Marine and youngest Marine receive pieces of cake cut by a Mameluke sword.
