Butterfly in the garden

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph a rehearsal for “Boudoir of Horrors,” a show by the Laramie Burlesque Troupe. I’ve never been to a burlesque show before so to photograph one – including backstage preparation shots in the dressing room – was very interesting to say the least. It was somewhat surprising to me that the girls I photographed were very cool and didn’t seem to mind a dude in their dressing room with a camera.

While I was in Indiana on vacation this year, I spent a couple days photographing at the Ducktail Run Rod & Custom Show in Gas City, Ind. The show is one of two annual events on the last weekend of September in Grant County marking the anniversary of James Dean’s death in 1955. (Dean grew up in nearby Fairmount, Ind.) It’s an incredibly visual and colorful event with some 2,000 registered cars in a large park with streets for cruising. I photographed the event for myself so I more or less wondered around and tried to find a few quirky scenes on what turned out to be a very wet weekend.
