Scarezilla

October 31, 2010

It’s a 32-foot-tall scarecrow. Need I say more? This was the scene at the house where I photographed trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Although you can’t see it in this frame, the entire front yard is decked out in Halloween decor. Add to this the fact that the homeowners, Fred and Linda Volkmar, spent most of the day making 400 bags of cotton candy from scratch in their kitchen with a few friends. In all, it’s a pretty cool place to take your kids on Halloween.

Scarezilla, a 32-foot-tall scarecrow, looks over Fred Volkmar's front yard as trick-or-treaters make their rounds on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, along Tripp Avenue. Volkmar created the scarecrow using a metal frame and a lift that holds the monster in place from the backside. A computer and sound system allowed him to talk to youngsters in a voice similar to that of Optimus Prime from the movie "Transformers."
