Sharlee Davis

March 7, 2010

The following photos are part of a story I photographed recently for the Bloomington Herald-Times. The images are part of an audio slideshow that was published online with the story.

Sharlee Davis shares a laugh on Monday, March 1, 2010, in the living room of her Bloomington home. Davis, who suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, says her blindness is "something to work around."

Sharlee Davis stretches her legs between laps during a swim on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the Monroe County YMCA. Davis suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, a eye disease that progressively gets worse over a period of several years. Diagnosed with the disease more than 20 years ago when she was 21, and she now can only make out light and dark patches.

Vocal lessons

March 7, 2010

The following photos are part of a story I photographed recently for the Bloomington Herald-Times. The images are part of an audio slideshow that was published online with the story. The story is about an Indiana University music student who is training to perform in an opera this summer.

IU student Mark Van Arsdale sings a selection of "Eugene Onegin," a Russian opera by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky during a vocal session with IU Professor Robert Harrison on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at the Jacob's School of Music. Van Arsdale is the understudy for the role of Lenski for a summer performance at the Opera Theater of St. Louis.

Stage Frightless

March 7, 2010

The following photos are part of a story I photographed recently for the Bloomington Herald-Times. The images are part of an audio slideshow that was published online with the story. The main subject is Jeff Nelsen, an Indiana University music professor who teaches a class that helps students overcome stage fright associated with auditions.

IU professor Jeff Nelsen walks off the "stage" after a mock audition performance for his students during a class on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Jacobs School of Music. Nelsen teaches a class to help music students combat stage fright associated with audition performances.

Classic Chevy convention

November 9, 2009

Each year, car enthusiasts from across the country gather for a convention celebrating and displaying classic Chevrolets. The convention is hosted by Classic Chevy International, a club founded in the 1970s for enthusiasts who owned 1955-1957 Chevrolets. The club sells reproduction parts for owners of 1955-1972 Chevrolets.

I have been attending the conventions since I was a small child, and what follows are some feature shots I got at this year’s convention near Chicago:
