My first assignment today was to photograph a local baseball player for a Texas state finals preview feature story. Originally I was supposed to shoot him in practice, but since it was raining I ended up doing a quick portrait using (without a modifier). I didn’t have a light stand in the truck so the writer was nice enough to hold the flash for me.

I worked a later shift today and covered two games in the UIL softball state semifinals. The first was a bit challenging because the harshness of the sunlight at the field. Shooting in harsh, mid-day sunlight is hard because you have to tip toe around your shots, waiting for subjects to pass through shade or to face the sun directly. Today was also challenging because it was extremely hot. A thermometer on the outfield scoreboard hit 95 degrees at one time.

This is the first of a few posts getting caught up with my travels. I’ve been in Southern Bavaria this weekend visiting friends and haven’t had a chance to post. Saturday was a very interesting day to be in Munich. One of the city’s soccer teams, target=”_blank”>Bayern München, was playing for a European championship later that night against Inter Milan in Madrid, Spain. Although the game was in Spain, fans traveled to Munich to watch the game at the team’s home stadium and to partake in a bit of pre-game festivities. I have to say it was a sports experience unlike any other to see these fans roaming the streets.
