Ten years ago, Jackie Nisley was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and spent the years that followed battling through treatments and infections. She had late-night talks with her father about walking her down the aisle someday, something that at the time seemed uncertain given the severity of her cancer. On Saturday her dream came true: ten years later and cancer free, her father walked her down the aisle for her wedding to her longtime boyfriend, Alfredo Alvarado. I had the opportunity to photograph Jackie’s wedding for a story the Tribune fittingly ran on Father’s Day. I haven’t shot a wedding in a couple years and since I wasn’t the official photographer I tried to stay out of the way, but I managed to capture a few decent moments.
