Europe through a plastic lens

August 3, 2010

Now that I’ve had a chance to go through all the film from my trip to Germany and Austria, I wanted to share my favorite photos I took with my Holga earlier this summer. Using the Holga for the first time was a great challenge to someone like me who hasn’t shot film since high school. It was a lot of fun to challenge myself to make pictures in a foreign environment with a camera that was foreign to me.

San Antonio, Texas (and the Alamo)

July 31, 2010

On my last day off during my time in Texas, I decided to go see the most cliché Texan thing possible: the Alamo. While I was there, I walked around the River Walk, which reminded me a lot of Venice with all the cafes and restaurants along the way.

Aaron Peirsol practices at UT

July 29, 2010

My main assignment today was to photograph Aaron Peirsol, a five-time Olympic gold medalist, as he practiced at the University of Texas with the men’s swim team. Piersol is training for the upcoming U.S. Nationals and Pan Pacific Championships.

Robert Plant at Stubb’s

July 26, 2010

Baby, baby, baby, do you like it? Okay, he didn’t actually sing “Misty Mountain Hop” while I was there, but I always wanted to say that. Monday evening former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant performed with the Band of Joy at Stubb’s in Austin. I was allowed to photograph the first three songs from the soundboard area, which was roughly 80 feet from the stage. My photos weren’t as good as they could have been had I been allowed to photograph from the pit area in front of the stage. But as a Zeppelin fan, it was very cool to see Plant perform in person.
