Munich goes soccer crazy

May 24, 2010

This is the first of a few posts getting caught up with my travels. I’ve been in Southern Bavaria this weekend visiting friends and haven’t had a chance to post. Saturday was a very interesting day to be in Munich. One of the city’s soccer teams, target=”_blank”>Bayern München, was playing for a European championship later that night against Inter Milan in Madrid, Spain. Although the game was in Spain, fans traveled to Munich to watch the game at the team’s home stadium and to partake in a bit of pre-game festivities. I have to say it was a sports experience unlike any other to see these fans roaming the streets.

Salzburg, Austria

May 21, 2010

In Salzburg, Austria today, I tried to continue a general theme I established in Munich on Thursday. Instead of photographing the buildings and the sights (the things that are photographed most often by tourists), I tried to look beyond what’s there for a less-often represented feature photo. I did a better job of this in Salzburg than I did in Munich because I spent more time walking around Salzburg. Also, I finally put the Holga to use and shot a couple of rolls including a multiple-exposure collage of sorts with a few of the Salzburg sites. Here’s a few of my shots from today sans the Holga shots:

Munich

May 20, 2010

Today was my first day in Munich. After two pretty smooth flights, I landed here around 8:50 a.m. local time. This was good because it allowed me to have the entire day to do some sightseeing. However, it was bad because I was really tired after not sleeping on our overnight flight from Philadelphia to Munich. It was a very rainy and cold day in Munich, and I didn’t really push myself to see much since I was so tired. Here’s a few features I shot today on my travels:

A woman working a booth at the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Dear Lady) waits for customers wanting to tour the church's tower on Thursday, May 20, 2010, in Munich. Despite construction to one of the church's famous onion-shaped towers, the southwest tower remains open for visitors wishing to make the climb to the top.

All in a semester’s work

May 12, 2010

The spring semester was huge for me. As a student, I worked on several projects and shot a great variety of images for the Bloomington Herald-Times. Most of my work this semester revolved around a course I had at Indiana University. The course, Advanced Photojournalism J444, was taught by Dr. James Kelly. I highly recommend it for student photographers who want to get better. Here are a few images from my class portfolio this semester:

Jeremy McQueary on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at The Seasons Lodge and Conference Center in Nashville, Ind. Lund, a veteran of the Vietnam War, Gulf War and Iraqi War, folded a flag in McQueary's ceremony. McQueary, 27, was killed in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan on Feb. 18.

Finals Week

May 4, 2010

This week at Indiana University is finals week. Since I’m a senior, it’s also my last week as a student at IU. After taking my last final today, I went home and grabbed my camera and walked around campus a bit. A few weeks back when I went to visit a professor’s office hours, I noticed a nice place for an overhead shot of a busy intersection on campus. I thought I’d stake out the spot and see if I could make a few pictures. I was surprised how dead campus was this evening despite finals.

A woman makes her way through the Indiana University campus on a bicycle on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, in Bloomington, Ind. The campus was unusually empty in the evening as students prepare for finals this week.
