I rarely cover track and field. Tuesday might have been only my third or fourth high school track meet ever. I’m usually not a fan because the meets often lack numbers that correspond to a roster, making it hard to tell who is who. However, this one – a sectional – didn’t, freeing me up to shoot a larger variety of events than I normally would. Since I haven’t shot it much, I’m not the greatest at it, but it was nice to get out of the big city to go play with some good evening light.
After what seems like months shooting basketball in dark caves known as high school gymnasiums, it was very nice to get outside for a few innings to shoot a high school game at Coveleski stadium. Need to work on my timing a bit, but I’m eager to shoot some more baseball at the Cove this summer.
I spent Saturday afternoon photographing the Huntington North Class 3A and 4A semistates for the Tribune. We had a couple local teams hoping to punch tickets to the state finals, but both teams – Mishawaka Marian and Elkhart Memorial – lost. It appears I might be bad luck. The gym was dark and had a green glow about it that I can only assume was cranked up for St. Patrick’s Day. The amazing food in hospitality room left me speechless and made up for the cave-like light illuminating the gymnasium.
Today I resumed my role as a professional armpit photographer. I didn’t post any peak-action armpits here, but you can see a bunch of them here. It was a pretty good game as South Bend Adams knocked off a highly-favored Lake Central to advance to the regional title game.
