South Bend Tribune

Pole positioning

March 16, 2012

In South Bend, the people here take St. Patrick’s Day very seriously. So seriously that I need to remind myself to check later to see if I get holiday pay for working on Saturday. On Thursday some of the preparations started for what should be a fun weekend in South Bend although I’ll be down in Huntington, Ind. shooting a couple semi-state basketball games. Alas, I will miss out on festivities such as the little leprechaun contest.

AJ Summe, of Aay's Rent-All, holds up a corner pole as he and other workers erect a 80 by 130-foot tent for downtown St. Patrick's festivities on Thursday, March 15, 2012, morning in South Bend. The tent, at 305 S. Michigan St., will feature live music, drinks and music on Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. (James Brosher/South Bend Tribune)

Waiting to work

March 13, 2012

This photo was taken as part of a series the Tribune is running profiling the plight of some unemployed folks in our area.

South Bend Adams upsets Lake Central

March 10, 2012

Today I resumed my role as a professional armpit photographer. I didn’t post any peak-action armpits here, but you can see a bunch of them here. It was a pretty good game as South Bend Adams knocked off a highly-favored Lake Central to advance to the regional title game.

Notre Dame features

March 7, 2012

Found a few features today as I walked around the Notre Dame campus. A string of warm days has prompted me to walk around the campus to look for features this week. Today we were in the 60s. Can’t wait for spring officially to arrive.

Joe Dolan, a sophomore from Fishers, Ind., checks his iPhone as he lays under a cocoon of blankets on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, on a grassy area in front of Fisher Hall on the Notre Dame campus. Dolan said he had been laying out since about 8 a.m. and planned to do so until a class at 4 p.m. (James Brosher/South Bend Tribune)
