Let it rain

June 9, 2010

A man makes his way past a Hickory Street Bar & Grill mural in the rain on Eighth Street near the intersection of Congress Avenue on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Downtown was a sea of umbrellas as an early morning shower sent pedestrians scrambling for their rain gear to keep dry.

Truck fire at the Statesman

June 8, 2010

I was getting ready to head to my second assignment today when I spotted black smoke coming from what I thought was the edge of the building. I parked the car and ran over to find a service truck engulfed in flames. Luckily two of my colleagues were already on the scene and had shots of the truck on fire. There weren’t any injuries. We ended up putting up a gallery of the scene. Who knew my first shots of spot news this summer would happen in the parking lot?

Baseball sportrait

June 8, 2010

My first assignment today was to photograph a local baseball player for a Texas state finals preview feature story. Originally I was supposed to shoot him in practice, but since it was raining I ended up doing a quick portrait using (without a modifier). I didn’t have a light stand in the truck so the writer was nice enough to hold the flash for me.
