Photographing pitchers is kind of my safety blanket when it comes to baseball. I know if there’s nothing else going on I can usually make a decent picture of the guy on the mound. Such was the case on Wednesday when I didn’t have time to wait for a double play or some fielding action because I was also working the photo desk. I dropped down to 1/30th of a second and stuck a focus point on the pitcher’s face to ensure it would be in focus as I followed him through his motion.

Last week I spent some time photographing Cheyenne Post 6 star Brandon Nimmo for the New York Post. The New York Mets recently selected Nimmo with the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s MLB draft. Last season, he batted .448 with 15 home runs and 84 runs batted in. But he doesn’t act like it. Despite his overwhelming success in Wyoming’s legion league and his first round draft selection, he continues to be extremely humble. He addresses everyone as “sir” and continues to go about business as usual with his legion league team, Post 6. When I photographed him at his home, his family was very hospitable to Post columnist Kevin Kernan and I. What follows are a few favorites from my time with Nimmo. You can read Kevin’s column here.
