Carlo Fierens

October 4, 2017

I had the opportunity recently to do a portrait session with Italian classical guitarist Carlo Fierens, a doctoral student in the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. This session was a lot of fun and as an added bonus I got to hear some of Carlo’s wonderful playing live during the shoot.

Lotus World Music and Arts Festival

October 3, 2017

Without fail since I first arrived in Bloomington as a student in 2006, I have somehow always managed to be out of town the weekend of the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival. Usually the festival falls during James Dean Weekend when I’m out of town at the Ducktail Run in Gas City, Indiana. This year, however, the festival was a weekend later and I finally had my first opportunity to attend and photograph Lotus. I experienced a sliver of what is a very expansive and beautiful collection of world music and art. Now as a card-carrying Bloomington townie, I’m looking forward to photographing the festival more extensively in the years to come.

Indiana University Student Building clock tower

September 30, 2017

Back in the summer, I was tasked with showing Indiana University’s iconic Student Building clock tower in a new way for an IU Communications project. I lucked out and happened upon this beautiful evening. This photo was actually an outtake. It was a shot I wanted to get just before landing the drone, but it ended up being my favorite from the entire shoot. It’s an example of shooting something for myself just for the sake of personal creativity after I’ve gotten “the shot” the client wants.

Indiana University Bloomington Summer Campus Scenics
The IU student building is pictured on a summer evening on the Indiana University Bloomington campus on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. During a building renovation in 1990, hot welding coals sparked a late-night fire completely destroying the tower and a number of custom-made bells from the Netherlands.
