Black Key Bulls win 73rd Men’s Little 500

April 22, 2024

A year after failing to qualify for the race, Black Key Bulls are Little 500 champions. Yet, the story of BKB’s ultimate redemption was not always certain. Sigma Alpha Epsilon dominated the race early, setting a blistering pace and amassing a more than 20-second lead on the field. A determined chase group eventually reined in Sigma Alpha Epsilon, paving the way for the Black Key Bulls’ move with 20 laps remaining. Black Key Bulls amassed a near half-lap lead and never looked back. Cutters out-sprinted Delta Tau Delta to finish second.

Cutters sprint to 15th Little 500 championship

May 22, 2023

Cutters outsprinted Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Phi Epsilon to capture their 15th Little 500 championship. Earlier in the day, the photo finish was not guaranteed. At lap 70, Sigma Phi Epsilon broke away, amassing more than a 20-second lead on the field. Cutters steadily reeled in Sigma Phi Epsilon, eventually retaking the lead on lap 148 and pedaling to victory. Delta Tau Delta and Chi Alpha overcame a late crash to finish second and fourth. After being a lap down at one point, Phi Kappa Psi regained their lap and finished the race among leaders for the final lap sprint. Phi Kappa Psi finished fifth.

Melanzana repeats as champions at 35th Women’s Little 500

May 22, 2023

A year removed from a dominating performance in the 2022 Little 500, Melanzana became repeat champions during the 35th running. Following a one-hour rain delay, Melanzana started the race again from the 13th position, but made a quick move to the front within the opening 10 laps. Teter broke away from the field around lap 46 and built a 17-second lead. A group of teams including Melanzana, Delta Gamma and Alpha Chi Omega eventually gained on Teter. Melanzana, emblazoned with the vibrant yellow jersey reserved for the defending champion team, separated from the leading pack after a series of late-race exchanges and never looked back. Teter finished second, followed by Alpha Chi Omega in third.
