Football 101 clinic at Notre Dame

June 11, 2013

Louis Nix III, a.k.a. Irish Chocolate, was a popular guy at Notre Dame’s Football 101 clinic:

Ford Tri-Motor airplane in Elkhart

June 3, 2013

I’m usually not a big fan of Mondays, but today was the exception: I had the opportunity to photograph and ride in a 1929 Ford Tri-Motor airplane. It was one of those moments where I had to pinch myself and say “do I really get paid to do this?”

Sunburst

June 1, 2013

Photographing a race like the Sunburst involves a lot of running, but not the kind of actual running the participants are engaging it. It involves a lot of running around from point to point in a car. This was my situation on Saturday morning. I woke up at 4:45 a.m. so I could be in downtown South Bend before the 6 a.m. start of the marathon. I positioned my car on a specific block near the starting line so that I could leave without encountering blocked roads on my way to the finishing line at the University of Notre Dame. After shooting the start of the marathon, 5K and half marathon in downtown, I jumped in my car and sped over to Notre Dame Stadium to try to catch winners. Shooting a race that finishes in a different location than where it starts can be hectic for one person, but luckily I had a logistical plan going in having photographed it for the first time last year.

After finishing the Sunburst 10K in 20th place, Tommy Ferry, 35, of Eau Claire, Mich., drops to a knee and slips a ring on the finger of his girlfriend, Shelly Bender, on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Notre Dame Stadium. Ferry unveiled a sign asking her to marry him as he ran the final 50 yards of the race on the football field. She said yes. (James Brosher/South Bend Tribune)
