Father’s Day

June 21, 2012

Spent Father’s Day hanging out with my dad as he helped host a car show with his car club down in Kokomo, Indiana. Didn’t shoot much, but after the show was over got a frame of dad relaxing after a long day in the heat. I’ll make sure to put this picture on his Father’s Day card next year.

Cancer battle ends with a walk down the aisle

June 19, 2012

Ten years ago, Jackie Nisley was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and spent the years that followed battling through treatments and infections. She had late-night talks with her father about walking her down the aisle someday, something that at the time seemed uncertain given the severity of her cancer. On Saturday her dream came true: ten years later and cancer free, her father walked her down the aisle for her wedding to her longtime boyfriend, Alfredo Alvarado. I had the opportunity to photograph Jackie’s wedding for a story the Tribune fittingly ran on Father’s Day. I haven’t shot a wedding in a couple years and since I wasn’t the official photographer I tried to stay out of the way, but I managed to capture a few decent moments.

Waiting for Tony

June 19, 2012

I spent Saturday evening at Plymouth Speedway waiting for Tony Stewart. Stewart, the defending NASCAR Spring Cup champion, was slated to race sprint cars on the track’s dirt inner oval after taking a helicopter from Michigan International Speedway where he was practicing for a cup race the next day. When Stewart finally arrived just before 10 p.m., he walked into this team’s hauler just as a thunderstorm rolled across the speedway. The night’s races were cancelled and Stewart never got in his car. The first frame sums up his evening well.
